Select Strawberry and Banana Dessert Parfait With Yogurt – A Simple, Fresh Treat

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries: Hulled and sliced. Choose bright red berries with a sweet scent.
  • Bananas: Ripe but still firm, sliced into coins.
  • Yogurt: Greek or regular, plain or vanilla. Use dairy-free (almond, coconut, soy) if preferred.
  • Granola or crushed nuts: For crunch. Almonds, walnuts, or pecans work well too.
  • Honey or maple syrup: Optional, for added sweetness.
  • Vanilla extract: Optional, a few drops to flavor plain yogurt.
  • Lemon juice: Optional, to brighten fruit and keep bananas from browning.
  • Pinch of salt: Optional, enhances flavor in the yogurt layer.
  • Fresh mint leaves: Optional, for garnish and a refreshing finish.

Instructions

  • Prep the fruit: Rinse strawberries, pat dry, hull, and slice. Slice bananas into 1/4-inch coins. If you’re prepping ahead, toss banana slices with a little lemon juice to slow browning.
  • Sweeten the yogurt (if needed): If using plain yogurt, stir in 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup per cup, plus a few drops of vanilla extract and a tiny pinch of salt. Taste and adjust.
  • Choose your glasses: Clear tumblers, dessert cups, or small mason jars show off the layers and keep portions tidy.
  • Build the first layer: Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of yogurt into the bottom of each glass. Smooth lightly for even layers.
  • Add strawberries: Arrange a layer of sliced strawberries over the yogurt. If your berries are tart, drizzle a touch of honey.
  • Sprinkle crunch: Add 1–2 tablespoons of granola or crushed nuts for texture. Don’t overdo it or the parfait can feel heavy.
  • Layer bananas: Add a layer of banana slices. A light squeeze of lemon over the bananas keeps them bright.
  • Repeat layers: Continue with yogurt, strawberries, crunch, and bananas until you reach the top, finishing with a dollop of yogurt and a few strawberry slices for color.
  • Garnish: Top with a final sprinkle of granola or nuts, a drizzle of honey, and a small mint leaf if you have it.
  • Serve right away: For best crunch, enjoy immediately. If you prefer softer granola, let it sit 5–10 minutes.
